The edamame was $9.00 and my entrée was $36.00. My first drink was $17.00 and my second was $19.00. Value: This place isn't cheap and you're paying for it with all of the decorations. I have had better at hole-in-the-wall Thai places, but I think that is to be expected. The flavors weren't strong enough and didn't pop enough. I can't really put my finger on it, but it just didn't blow me away. I opted for the Pad Thai Noodles then added lobster. It was in a cute wicker basket steamer, was cooked excellently and decently salty.
For an appetizer we started with the edamame. This one was also refreshing, but they just weren't as strong as I needed them to be for the amount of money that they cost. I must say, TAO makes some beautifully looking and tasty drinks, that's for sure. It's got a cute name, right? It contains Tito's Vodka, Domaine Chandon Sparkling Rose, St. I don't remember getting a good buzz from it so that's why I got a 2nd drink! Lol. I know I'm starting to sound like a Debbie Downer but the food was not acceptable for this type of atmosphere and location. So instead of getting the steak I ended up getting the branzino fish, unfortunately that didn't make the grade either. So at that point I tried the eel appetizer sushi roll, it was good if you like basically a California roll that was hardly any eel in it at all. We tried to spare ribs as an appetizer and it was chainsaw tough. I did try an appetizer of it and nothing to write home about. If I was going to spend that kind of money I wanted at least the best meaning A5, all they had was A3. Matter of fact it was almost a running joke as though we were all neighbors. off being that was couples meaning just me and my wife we were seated in an area that was pretty much crammed with people you had maybe a foot and a half of space in between tables. Well we just left the restaurant now over here at Mohegan Sun, and we were really looking forward to a great meal let me start off with saying yes the atmosphere is very nice definitely has a good vibe. If you go, try to make it mid week because they are slammed on the weekends and if you want prime time dining around 6-7 PM make your reservations well in advance.
We will think twice about visiting Tao again. The best part of the meal was probably the mango sorbet. Our birthday guest had Japanese fried chicken that was so dry and overcooked that he could not eat it. I felt that $48 for fish sticks was a bit pricey.
It consisted of small breaded and fried pieces of what may have been fish that was overcooked and dry and more akin to fish sticks from the super market than the fresh fish that I expected. My entree was crisp fried snapper in sand that was supposed too be a bed of garlic and dried olives that I think was gravel instead of sand. And then come the ugly - most of the food was poorly prepared, over priced and some of it was inedible. Imagine a large, packed dining area with people shouting at each other trying to be heard over the music. Next comes the bad - the music, rap/hip hop I think, was so loud as to make dinner conversation almost impossible. The ambience is perfect for fine dining, the menu and wine list is extensive. In the past we have been very satisfied with the experience.
